X-Treme X-Men #1
Recommended!
When I saw that this was available this past week, I was on the fence. At first I decided that I would not pick it up, but then, as I perused the stacks of comics in the store, I decided to grab it.
I have to say, that the art is beautiful. I took the time to just “look at it” after reading through once, and without concentrating on the words, it is really quite nice.
There is a sound concept here, almost edging towards “Marvel Cosmic”. Alternate universes, multi-verses, etc. are all the rage in the sci-fi / cosmic world - I have nothing against them at all. I am sure one of me somewhere has something against them, but who cares what he thinks.
I am definitely going to give this book a chance - at least through the first arc. I need another book on my pull list, like I need… well another book on my pull list. Suffice to say, I don’t. If this gets good, it may make the cut. If it stays status quo, I may just read it without review. If it goes nowhere, so too will my money in support of this effort.
I am really looking forward to seeing what becomes of this “Quest” type story-line for a few, select, and odd ball characters (or odd ball representations of some well-known and loved characters).
One thing it does have going for it right now - that “Firefly” / “Space Cowboy” feel. It is probably just James Howlett’s outfit and attitude, but I will take it. Oh, and it apparently will have a more gritty feel - these X-Men kill…and I thought I remember someone nearly cursing - so there is potential on a lot of fronts.
So, whether you like the “Quest” / “Sliders” / “Firefly” / ”Quantum Leap” / “Stargate” feel or just like collecting X-Men titles, this may be for you. I hope the future issues stay like this, at the very least, but I have a hunch they will just get better and better…
Don’t miss out on this very interesting #1 of some pretty X-Treme X-Men!
PS. It has Dazzler in it. So that should be enough reason to get it right there!
PPS. BAMF!
