Avengers vs. X-Men #11
So much was spoiled about this issue (by Marvel on Facebook, the day of its release, by publishing an interview with the creator’s about their choices.
You know someone dies.
I will not put that person’s name in this review.
In fact, I am not 100% that this person is dead. I wouldn’t have guessed that is what happened - but I have to assume that is what happened based on what the creators have stated publicly.
There was more illustrative evidence of what happened to Wolverine than this person. Weird. I guess I am either missing the point, or really missing out on a lot by not checking out the “AR” stuff (I do not have a phone which supports this feature).
Anyway, this review is not about the death of someone in the Marvel Universe. It is not even about the birth of one of its greatest foes. It is about the decisions that were made. The difficult decisions.
In my opinion, the best difficult decision in the book, which sticks with you…
Well, nope, it is not what you might think…
Two words: “Throw Me.”
The entire story is a setup for the last issue in this event. Even the outcome of that has been mostly spoiled by “AvX: Consequences”, a seemingly 5-part mini-series following AvX, running in parallel to Marvel NOW!
If there is one other primary thing that happens (besides all the above), it is that everyone who you care about in the Marvel Universe (as part of this fight) bears witness to Cyclops’ corruption. You really see how crazy the Phoenix drives people (in case you had forgotten the Jean incident).
One main thing I wonder about all of this - with the Phoenix so powerful, powerful enough to consume entire planets (as it did on its way to Earth), how is everyone in the vicinity not burned to a crisp?
Maybe, just maybe, a lot of what we saw was in Cyclops’ mind? Could it be? Probably not, but it is the only thing I can convince myself of based on the amount of FIRE in this issue… seriously, it looks like the SUN is on Earth and Spider-Man’s costume isn’t even really singed…
The “good” news is that things appear to be on track with my original predictions… we shall see.
I am very interested on how this will turn out. Not just based on what we think happens based on the upcoming series and released spoilers… what actually happens. We have one more main issue for the event, one more main AVX Vs issue, and a handful of tie-ins… there is still quite a bit of story to tell.
PS. Where are the Fantastic Four (other than the Thing)? Cosmic = FF!
