Hulk Smash Avengers #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5 (of 5)
Recommended!
I did an Audio Review of Issue #1 and Issue #2 a while back (May 15, 2012) and decided this five-part mini-series was worth picking up. It was a set of 5 $2.99 comics, which is a nice change from the $4 price tag we are stuck with most of the time. I looks like it will be “traded” and available for around $15. This is good news for those of you waiting for a collection of these very interesting “side stories”.
The concept for this mini-series was very interesting to me - a mini-series which walks the reader through the relationship between Hulk and the Avengers throughout the years of their co-existence. What is made clear (and what many of us already knew) - there is one main consistency between Hulk and the Avengers - that is there is very little consistency. These five books explore the Hulk in his various incarnations - from dull to smart, from Mr. Fixit to Banner and even some Red Hulk for good measure. The same goes for the Avengers - as the years flew by, so did their roster - we see many different Avengers teams throughout this series.
The most intersting part of the mini-series is that while it occurs within continuity, it depicts stories that were essentially “off-panel”. At the beginning of each story we receive a little clue as to where each issue took place within continuity.
Here is a guide for each issue (in case you were interested):
